NRHA was excited to have Interscholastic Equestrian Association Communications Director, Myron Leff, at the 2011 NRHA Derby. I was able to catch up with Myron as he and Board Member, Brett Walters, took a break from the competition to go over the basics of reining outside of the coliseum. Following the youth meeting the NRHyA had a Speech Contest which consisted of $3,000 worth of scholarship money. The categories included Prepared Public, Community Service, and the reciting of A General. Jordan Cox won prepared public, Emma Holbrook won Community Service, and the A General winner was Morgan Burns. For highlights from the competitions please click the link below.
Cimarron Trailers ?The Amazing Trailer Race? once again proved to be a fun and exciting kiddie competition that the whole arena could enjoy. The competition was stiff with the kids competing in prelims and finals. For highlights from the competitions and interviews with the participants please watch the videos below. NRHA youth showed up in full force this Derby proving that age is just a number and showing off their skills in Oklahoma City. The 2011 NRHA Derby hosted the inaugural NRHA Interscholastic Reining Championship following the Non-Pro classes on Thursday morning. Eight accomplished riders from the NRHyA and IEA will experienced the ultimate catch ride on some of the finest horses at the NRHA Derby. Layla Choate proved to be the first champion of this event and is sure to continue to capture championships in the future.
The Collegiate Reining Championship also proved to be a real nail-biter with the best of the best from across the country competing for the number one spot. The run for first was all tied up; that is until the last ride by Jesse Gentile, who rode out of the arena a champion. For highlights from the competitions please click the link below.
Platinum Performance hosted the Non Pro Draw Party providing a delicious breakfast and a fun family atmosphere for all those who attended. Finalist secured their spot in the finals by randomly drawing a spot at the mid-morning party. Platinum Performance hosted the Open Draw Party tonight offering NRHA Open finalist a festive way to pick their spots for the finals. Finalist were served a picnic style supper and then called to the front of the room to choose from a series of wine bottles where a draw spot number was hidden underneath. Finalist walked away with a secure position in the finals and a little something to celebrate with. SmartPak knows how to throw one heck of a good party! SmartPak? hosted the third annual SmartPak Derby Party which consisted of a delicious cowboy luau meal and the “Put the Scoop Down” feeding challenge. Attendees also got to enjoy the three on thee basketball tournament as well as the NRHyA dunk tank!
